Website assessment #3
A management consulting firm
This document is divided into four main parts:
  • ACME Media Overview
  • Audience/Customers (what they want)
  • Page-By-Page Critique
  • Recommendations

Contact steve@ryancreative.com for your own independent website review.

Part Four: Recommendations

Websites are living-breathing entities and as such, they need to be constantly monitored, assessed and reworked to better fit with market trends and one's own business strategy.

The following recommendations are a culmination of many of the issues that were mentioned in the individual page critiques - but with an ultimate focus on elevating the value of ACME Media.com for both its owners and its customers.

Home Page

Restructure the entire page/approach so that it is more applicable to all audience groups - using the following components:

  • Branding
  • Intro message/description
  • Toolbar
  • MediaRooms (each should be current and have an abstract or descriptor)
  • Benefits (for journalists and business managers)

ACME Media branding + tool bar: keep it as minimal as possible (especially height-wise); go to 100% if you can; and consider going with the following revised set of links:

  • MediaRoom
  • About Us
  • Services
  • Rates
  • Resources
  • Contact Us

Add new intro message that clearly describes who and what ACME Media is (I proposed a sample message)

Other Recommendations

  • Consider creating a bilingual version of ACME Media - especially since most of your clients are bilingual
  • Add 'Media Strategy' to your list of services
  • Break Links Page into three categories: Understanding The Value of Media Relations; Client Ink; Online Media
  • Develop your own content on topics such as: what is media relations; publicity; why do it; how do you do it; etc. (or link to pages with such info)
  • Source existing media list pages (that way you don't have to manage the list)
  • Do regular searches to see which of your client's are being written up (or spoken about in broadcast)
  • Link the ACME Media logo to the homepage and create a new page for an alphabetical list of client MediaRooms and/or content
  • Homepage then simply displays the top 10 issues/initiatives (you can choose which stories get a homepage presence… the 'hot' items)
  • This then allows your list of clients to grow without cluttering up the homepage
